About Chucao

What Chucao stands for

A Personalized Experience

As a traveler and experienced guide I know how confusing it gets when you have a long chain of people caring for one small detail each. This is a project built to stay small, for you to talk directly with your adventure planner, logistics manager and guide, whenever needed. This is our experience, we build it and we will have fun together. As your host, I want to make sure you know I am there for you.

Authenticity

To travel through Patagonia, you must hear the region's most famous phrase “those who rush, waste time”. I care for details and recognize the difference between cultures and have developed rituals and experiences that will allow us to experience Chilean Patagonia for what it is in its entirety.

Environmentally Sustainable

I aim to have a positive impact, consume locally, preferring environmentally conscious practices. As an Outdoor Educator, Leave No Trace Master, and guide, I have a system to ensure a rather positive impact on all that is in our hands.

Socially Responsible

Because we learn from our history, we don’t believe in extractivism or pushing local communities aside; the community that is influenced by our visits shall be involved, understood and respected. Local understanding can be best brought by an informed local.

I donate 5% of my income from every trip to either an environmental or social local project.
Feel free to ask for further details.

Meet me

I am Lucas, a professional of the outdoors who offers personalized and authentic adventures in one of the world's most beautiful wilderness sanctuaries, Patagonia.

I mainly grew up in Chile, partly in the U.S. I studied tourism, because I wanted to travel, move, see more than what I knew, I wanted adventures, this brought me to Torres del Paine in 2010. There I spent 10 years guiding on horse, kayak and multi-day trekkings. In 2011 I completed both a mountaineering and kayaking expedition for 80 days with NOLS Patagonia, which gave me both the skills and experience to lead in the great outdoors. Later, I followed the stream of life and decided to give it a try to central Europe where I worked for Outward Bound Germany, developing skills in personal and interpersonal development as well as becoming an Emergency Medical Technician. Lately? Well, I have been teaching First Aid (Berlin), Wilderness Medicine (NOLS, mainly in Europe), Outdoor Education in the Alps (Outward Bound Germany) and guiding hikes and kayaking trips  on the Lofoten islands, in Patagonia and Iceland. Favorite place? Patagonia, hands down. So, I want to bring people there,  small groups, personalized trips: to listen, feel and be as free as it gets, to build and live an adventure together.
